Ms. Joosten will discuss her work with online education and social media as well as her insights on the evolution of distance education.  UNMC faculty and staff can visit with  Ms. Joosten regarding strategies and techniques for teaching in the online environment.  Mary Niemiec, NU Online Worldwide,  will also be present to take Tanya’s expertise and fit it into the context of NU. 

Tanya Joosten is director of eLearning Research and Development at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where she works to guide strategic eLearning efforts at the campus, state and national levels, to develop innovative programming for the UWM campus, and to lead a team of researchers to advance the field of eLearning.  Joosten is co-director of the National Research Center for Distance Education and Technology Advancements supported by the U.S. Department of Education.  Joosten has been recognized by the Sloan-Consortium as a fellow for her work in blended and online learning. Her efforts have been highlighted in the Chronicle of Higher Education, Ed Tech Magazine and eCampus News. She is deeply involved in planning for the future of education, including the UWM Campus and Digital Futures Planning, EDUCAUSE Evolving Technologies Steering Committee and EDUCAUSE IT Status committee.
